Situation:
Municipal cogeneration utility required smaller state of the art water treatment system. Source water was a very hard city water supply in southern Minnesota.
Challenges:
Customer requested an all-bus control solution featuring AS-i, Foundation Fieldbus, and DeviceNet protocols, the latest control technology, to communicate with the distributed control center (DCS).
Solution:
The following approach was taken for the water treatment system:
- ASi network for discrete signals (valves, alarms and other I/O)
- Foundation Fieldbus for process variables (flows, pressures, etc.)
- DeviceNet for pump motors and VFD's
The duplex multi-media filter, duplex water softener, reverse osmosis system and EDI system were constructed with 316L stainless steel pipe.
Results:
A Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) was completed. All components operated successfully. The customer is in the process of scheduling installation of the equipment. We will support startup when it is scheduled.
